AHN Cardiology fellowship is committed to supporting the professional, emotional, physical and social well-being for our fellows.
We believe it’s important to build resilience, and find meaning and joy in our work. We continue to achieve this by planning fellows social events such as basketball games and dinner parties. We have developed a wellness curriculum and we provide resources and training on stress management, burnout recognition, and resilience.
“Education and training is one of the core missions of the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). Our fellows are very important, valued members of our CVI team, and because of them, our environment is intellectually stimulating, our patients receive better care, and our entire CVI community is enriched. It therefore comes as no surprise that several fellowship alumni have joined our faculty over the years to help train the next generation of AHN cardiologists”
-Srinivas Murali, MD Faculty

-Victor Farah, MD Faculty
“The culture at AGH is supportive, adaptive, and encouraging of new ideas. We are always challenging ourselves to be better and open to evolve, from how we operate the fellowship to how we deliver care.”
-Farhan Katchi, MD Faculty
"Fellowship at AGH is a culmination of everything one desires in a training institution. Primarily focused on fellow education and development, opportunities are endless with renowned faculty from all subspecialties of Cardiology who create a nurturing environment. We have the privilege to tailor our training to suit our training needs, and every fellow achieves what they seek with the program's support including niche segments of cardiology such as cardio-oncology, aortopathy clinic, women's health, hypertension clinic, lipid clinic and more. Having spent the last year at AGH, there is no other place I would rather be and would absolutely pick AGH again, if I had to, for my fellowship! Again, I look forward to going to work every day!"

"The AGH cardiology fellowship program has the ideal blend of academics and patient care. The atmosphere is collegial, and the volume of patients, noninvasive testing and invasive procedures make achieving one's fellowship goals easily attainable. The program exposes the fellow to the latest state of the art procedures and therapies in a way that makes the application toward patient care straightforward. I am confident that this training will absolutely prepare me for my transition to practice once my training is finished."

“I have enjoyed being part of the AGH family. I chose AGH because it’s a complete program in all aspects of general cardiology covered with exposure to a busy consult service, multimodality imaging, advanced HF and a complex critical care CCU unit. These things make you ready to tackle everything when you go out in to the real world. Also, the exposure and opportunities in HF and Cath lab to deal with complex patients helps nurture the interest of trainees interested in pursuing those branches. The best part of the fellowship has been the people whom you work with. They treat you with respect and thoughtfulness and encourage discussion, dialogue and debate making this journey fun and knowledgeable.”

“AGH is a great hospital with excellent faculty members who are really engaged in teaching and making us the best we can be. The volume and pathology rivals most institutions, yet the environment is collegial and welcoming.”
-Second Year Fellow
“Work/life balance is really great. I have had fun learning and coming to work each day. The faculty, fellows, and staff all get along extremely well, which creates a great work environment.”

"One of my favorite literary characters of all time, Albus Dumbledore, once famously said that help will always be found at Hogwarts for those who ask for it. That sentence to me is emblematic of what an educational institution should be- a place to be challenged and to be nurtured in an environment that makes you feel safe and like you fundamentally belong. I have always felt like that within my fellowship at AGH: that my ideas and my growth- even something as fundamental as who I am- is important. I treasure my relationship with everyone in my fellowship- whether it is my attendings, my co-fellows or our support staff. I feel like I am part of a work family and I have felt cared for even in something as challenging as pandemic.
The clinical spectrum of cases in our fellowship is staggering, and this has become even more obvious to me as I participate in national cardiology forums. From preventive cardiology to advanced mechanical circulatory support, our fellowship incorporates every single aspect of cardiology. I could write extensively, about how amazing our training is and it would all be true, but I think the true strength of our program is intangible- it is in the people. I have grown not just as a physician but as a person from role modeling I have seen from my peers and from my attendings. I would pick AGH for my training every single time if I had to do it again.”

“There are few other places that offer as complete a package of cardiology fellowship training as Allegheny General. Interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure, advanced cardiac imaging, women's health, cardio-oncology, structural heart disease: AGH offers everything a fellow could want exposure to while maintaining a strong identity of ownership and participation amongst the fellows. Allegheny General has been an absolutely incredible place to train and has given me an amazing clinical foundation as well as lifelong friends and mentors.”
