Today’s Jefferson Hospital evolved from what used to be known as the South Hills Health System after Homestead and St. Joseph’s Hospitals joined together in 1973. Now, as part of Allegheny Health Network (AHN), Jefferson Hospital cares for residents of Allegheny, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.
Jefferson was the first hospital in Pennsylvania recognized by the American Heart Association as a STEMI Receiving Center. Its cardiac department has won multiple awards and accreditation for outstanding cardiac care. Jefferson also won the “Get With The Guidelines®” Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement and the Blue Distinction for Knee and Hip replacement.

Behavioral Health Division: Inpatient adult behavioral health, electroconvulsive therapy, intensive outpatient (IOP), and two adult outpatient counseling programs. A child and adolescent outpatient program is in development
Obstetrics Division: Women and Infants Center with Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Post-Partum, Triage, Surgical Suite, and a Level II Continuing Care Nursery
Cardiovascular Service Line: Cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology labs, noninvasive cardiology testing, inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, outpatient congestive heart failure clinic, nutritional counseling and diabetes education, outpatient wellness center, perfusion services, and cardiac registries
Wound Care Division: Two outpatient wound care centers including HBO
Care Management Division: Comprehensive care coordination and a health coach program in conjunction with W&J College
Surgical Services Division: OR, CVOR, Preadmissions, OPMU, OPSU, PACU, Endoscopy and Central Sterile
Emergency Division: Emergency Department, Observation, and Emergency Preparedness
Critical Care Division: ICU and CVU
Rehab Division: Inpatient rehab unit
Medical/Surgical Division: Orthopedic/neurology/stroke, medical oncology and infusion center, general medical surgical with bariatric specialty, renal, respiratory
Telemetry Division: Post-surgical and general cardiac monitoring. All medical surgical nursing units except for one are capable of either level 1 or level 2 cardiac monitoring
Dialysis Division: Designated area for inpatient dialysis services
Professional Practice and Education Division: Staff development, wound ostomy, and Magnet coordination
