The Center for Surgical Arts is a purpose-built, state of the art cadaver lab located within Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

A one of a kind research facility

We provide a comfortable learning environment for a broad area of medical specialties, accommodating up to 250 people and an array of technologies. The facility is open to institutions inside, as well as outside of AHN.

Our space and facilities

The Center for Surgical Arts is one of the largest facilities of its kind on the East Coast.

    • 7,400 square foot open floor plan
    • 21 stations that can operate independently
    • Downdraft tables
    • Radiolucent tables
    • Dedicated equipment including O-Arm, C-Arm, surgical scopes, endoscopes and stereotactic navigation
    • Full-time, on-site dedicated staff of technicians and coordinators
  • A lab technician placing medical instruments in the washer.

    Tissue storage and processing areas


    • Large capacity cold storage with rail system and lift assist
    • Long-term tissue storage
    • Dedicated autoclave
    • Four shelf instrument washer
    • Personal protection equipment (scrubs/lead)
    • Tissue acquisition and disposal
  • An empty conference room with a table, twelve chairs and tv on the wall for video conferences.

    Conference and facilities services


    • Peter J. Jannetta dedicated conference room (35 person capacity)
    • State-of-the-art IT support
    • Full-service conference facilities for larger groups, including catering services and auditoriums for up to 275 people
    • Locker rooms
    • Ability to teleconference outside participants into the lab or conference room with full AV streaming capabilities
