Our residents are a diverse group, hailing from Pittsburgh or around the globe. Although each has a unique background and story to tell, what unites them is their intense commitment to learn while providing the best patient care possible.

AHN Internal Medicine Residency Chief Residents 2024-2025

Hardik Valand, MD

Dr. Valand, originally from Toronto, Canada, began his academic journey at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his medical education at the American University of Integrative Sciences in St. Maarten and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Trinity Health System in Steubenville, Ohio, before joining Alleghany General Hospital as chief resident. Dr. Valand's passion for advanced treatments and patient care drives his ambition to specialize in Cardiovascular Medicine. Beyond medicine, he enjoys photography, hiking, running, and distance biking.

Dylan Winters, DO

Dr. Winters was born and raised in the Pittsburgh region, growing up in McKeesport Pennsylvania. He attended Saint Vincent College in Latrobe Pennsylvania for his undergraduate studies obtaining a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in theology. He attended Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in North Carolina to complete his medical school training. Dr. Winters then returned home to Pittsburgh to complete his residency training in Internal Medicine at Allegheny Health Network. After his chief year, Dr. Winters plans on pursuing a Sports Medicine fellowship. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying active in numerous sports and watching MLB, NHL, and NFL games. 

Natthew Arunthamakun, DO

Dr. Arunthamakun is from East Tennessee and earned his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University, master's degree in medical physiology from Case Western Reserve University, and medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Allegheny Health Network in June 2024 and additionally finished the Clinician Education Track. After his chief year, he plans to continue being a clinical educator and join on as Faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Outside of work he enjoys staying active, going on adventures, and cooking up new recipes for his family..

Balaji Jagdish, DO

Balaji is a native of Rochester, NY. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and his medical degree from Kansas City University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Allegheny Health Network in June 2024 and was part of the Inclusion Health Track during residency. After his chief year, he plans to pursue a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family/friends, traveling abroad and hiking.
