About the program

Our fellowship is accredited by the ACGME as a three-year combined program providing leading-edge training in both pulmonary and critical care medicine.  

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is the flagship hospital for AHN, it is a 576-bed quaternary care and educational hospital training over 500 residents and fellows across 46 accredited academic programs.  Our division has grown, under the leadership of our division chair, Dr. Tariq Cheema, which has brought expanding opportunities for our fellows.  Our fellows are an integral part of our division and work alongside the attendings in a truly collegial fashion. 

PCCM fellows rotate through the 5 specialized ICUs at AGH, our pulmonary consult service, and work alongside our IP team in our comprehensive Bronchoscopy Laboratory with hands-on training in robotic bronchoscopy, EBUS bronchoscopy, cryobiopsy, stent placement, endobronchial valve placement, and percutaneous tracheostomy placement.  The fellows also gain outpatient experience in our Breathing Disorder Center, Sleep Disorders Center, and disease-focused ambulatory clinics.

Our program combines intense clinical rotations, ample teaching opportunities, and clinical research experience opportunities to train outstanding doctors and leaders.

The Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship also offers a critical care track for AGH Infectious Disease Fellows, an AGH Nephrology Fellow, and a Cardiology Fellow who is interested in becoming critical care board certified. Welcome and thank you for your interest in our Pulmonary Critical Care program. The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is dedicated to excellence in patient care and education, and the fellowship has been a fundamental part of this mission since its inception in 1976.  We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking, compassionate physicians to join our PCCM fellowship team.

Our vision is to provide you with a comprehensive training experience exposing you to diverse pathology across all facets of pulmonary and critical care medicine.  Our fellows log over 1,000 procedures before graduation, and the faculty is dedicated to helping you achieve your career goals while building lifelong friendships along the way.  We would love to tell you more about our team and what our fellowship has to offer!
