The fellow will be supervised at all times by Drs. Jeffrey Mueller and Timothy Mickus. Both are board-certified, fellowship-trained chest and cardiac radiologists holding memberships to various professional societies. Additional cardiac imaging supervision is provided by Drs. Moneal Shah and Robert Biederman in cardiac imaging. Both are cardiologists at the main Allegheny General campus. Most of the chest xrays are interpreted by attending radiologists outside the cardiothoracic division.
Supervised duties will include image interpretation, performance of invasive procedures (chest biopsies, ablations, thoracentesis, chest tube insertions), and resident and medical student teaching. Diagnostic imaging studies and reports will be reviewed by one of the attending staff. All invasive procedures will be performed under direct supervision of the attending staff. In addition, the fellow will be encouraged to develop and execute a research project on a subject of his/her interest. The goal will be to not only become involved in scholarly pursuits, but also to prepare a paper for presentation and/or publication in the peer-review literature. Financial support will be provided for an abstract or poster accepted at a national meeting.
When working as junior attending, studies performed and interpreted by the fellow will not be reviewed by the faculty, since the fellow will be a board-eligible, licensed practitioner. Attending faculty in all divisions are always available for consult and assistance.
