Your physician may recommend HMR (Health Management Resources), a meal replacement program where you eat specific foods (such as protein shakes) on a structured meal schedule. Patients on the HMR program meet regularly with an in-person support group. At these meetings, you get to hear from people who face similar challenges while you learn how to form healthier habits.
Your physician will help you decide which type of HMR diet is best for you. An HMR diet generally doesn’t need medical supervision unless you take diabetes medication.

Schedule an appointment with your primary care provider (PCP) to talk about your interest in weight loss. Your PCP will review your health history and ask about your weight loss goals. They will also refer you to a dietitian to talk about diet and lifestyle changes. Your PCP can prescribe weight loss medication if it is the right option for you.
