Allegheny Health Network is a high-volume academic setting based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is comprised of multiple hospital-based and stand-alone Breast Imaging Centers. AHN serves patients throughout Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia who seek expert multidisciplinary care. The Fellowship originated in 1995 as the West Penn Women’s Imaging Fellowship. The Fellowship currently offers two full-time positions to qualified applicants and provides training in mammography, sonography and magnetic resonance imaging, with updated technology and equipment throughout the Health System. The volume and complexity of cases to which the fellows are exposed, affords the knowledge and experience trainees require to become experts in interpretation of screening and diagnostic mammography (2D/3D), breast ultrasound, breast MRI and image-guided procedures (including biopsies and pre-operative localizations). Interactions with expert interdisciplinary teams (surgical oncology, oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, genetics) during the work day and weekly multidisciplinary tumor board conferences further enhance trainees’ education. Elective and research opportunities are also available for those who are interested.
The Fellow is expected to train five days a week and have 20 days off during the twelve month fellowship. Ten months will be spent completely in the Breast Center. The Fellow will always train under the direct supervision of a fellowship trained breast imaging radiologist. Learn more about Program description.
The Breast Imaging Fellowship participates in the Match. The match is sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging and it will be managed by the National Resident Matching Program. In order to be appointed a fellow with Allegheny Health Network, you must register with the Radiology Match, of which Breast Imaging is a part. Learn more about application information.
The Breast Imaging Fellowship program is part of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) opportunities offered by the AHN Medical Education Consortium. Learn more about Graduate Medical Education.
