The ACGME-accredited Nephrology Fellowship program at Allegheny Health Network strives to provide an outstanding education in a nurturing environment that encourages the growth of the nephrology fellows by preparing them for a career path in clinical and academic nephrology.
Growth in knowledge base is enhanced by weekly core curriculum faculty lectures, clinical conferences, and focused discussions during inpatient and outpatient rounds. Development of clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and experience in all of the core competencies is fostered by an environment that allows fellows appropriate independence in patient management with input from the nephrology faculty.

Thank you for your interest in the Nephrology Fellowship at Allegheny Health Network!
The Nephrology Fellowship at AHN is a two-year ACGME-accredited subspecialty program, established in 1974. The primary objective of the nephrology program is to offer outstanding education and experience in an environment that encourages growth by preparing fellows for a career path in clinical and academic nephrology. The program provides nephrology fellows with broad clinical experiences and the resources to perform meaningful clinical research. The commitment of the faculty to teaching and research is considered to be a significant strength of the program.
The program attracts patients from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. A comprehensive curriculum has been developed to provide training in the following major areas: consultative nephrology, inpatient and outpatient dialysis and related renal replacement therapies including home hemodialysis, hypertension, and transplant nephrology. The program is closely integrated with the renal transplantation program and provides the fellows with a truly unique and valuable experience in transplantation medicine.
Fellows are provided with exciting research opportunities throughout their education. They are involved in all aspects of research, from initiation of protocol submissions to writing abstracts and posters for nephrology meetings and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
