Exercising with Type 2 Diabetes
Get Up, Get Out, and Get Moving
When you have type 2 diabetes, being active is another part of living healthy. Almost any type of physical activity helps lower your blood sugar, and there are lots of other benefits too, including:
- More energy for everyday activities and simply feeling great
- Stress relief
- Keeping your joints flexible
- Lowering your risk for heart disease and stroke
You should always talk to your doctor, or a member of the AHN Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Health, before starting any vigorous physical activity. Adding extra walking to your daily routine is a good start until you can talk to your medical team.
