Message from the Program Director

Welcome AHN Saint Vincent Emergency Medicine Residency in beautiful Erie, Pennsylvania

You will never be just a number here. From the day you match with us, you become part of a tight-knit hospital family who will know your name, your goals, and your family. We're a community program with a big heart and even bigger opportunities - and we'd love to show you what makes this place
home.

A Program With Deep Roots

Founded in 1875 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, AHN Saint Vincent Hospital has spent 150 years caring for the Erie community. Today we're a 430-bed regional referral center and teaching hospital, and our Emergency Department welcomes more than 54,000 patients a year. That means real medicine, real acuity, and real responsibility- right from the start.

Come Get the Reps. Come Lead the Room.

We give you a true community experience with high-acuity
volume - so you'll perform more procedures, see more critical cases, and lead
more resuscitations as you are unopposed in the department.  You won't fight fellows for procedures- every intubation, chest tube, and central line is ours. Many residents hit their ACGME graduation minimums early year two. You own the resuscitation bay- our residents are primary team leaders for the critical patients who come through our doors. This is where real medicine happens with incredibly diverse pathology arriving straight through the AHN Saint Vincent Emergency Department doors.

Learn From World-Class Faculty Who Know Your Name

Our faculty are fellowship-trained across the full range of emergency medicine subspecialties- and they're nationally recognized educators who bring that expertise directly to you. What makes them special isn't just the awards on the wall; it's how deeply they invest in teaching you.  Our faculty has received national honors, including 2025 ACOEP National Mentor of the Year and the 2025 National ACEP Junior Teaching Award.  Our team has multiple renowned educators with fellowship training across EMS, Research, Medical Education, Ultrasound, Residency Administration, and ABEM HALM (healthcare administration, leadership, and management) subspeciality certifications. Our faculty also has multiple ACEP Teaching Fellowship trained educators to guide your growth.

Mentorship That Feels Like Family

Here, faculty focus on you- one-on-one attending mentorship, high autonomy with an experienced safety net, and an attending always just steps away. You'll be mentored by faculty who are invested in you — and who will celebrate every milestone right alongside you. We're proud of  our faculty, but what our residents talk about most is each other. They're best friends outside the hospital - regular
hangouts, family support, and wellness initiatives keep the group close.  We work hard, but we protect your peace.

We Support Your Whole Life and Invest In You

We know residency is a season of life, not just a job - so we built a program that supports your family and your future: Be well stay well initiatives and lecture series, competitive salaries, and full health, life, and disability insurance. On-site daycare and dedicated support for residents raising kids. Relocation assistance, educational and meal stipends, 4% 401(k) match, and 14 days of vacation.  Our
program has a proven track record of placing graduates into top fellowships and
their dream jobs.

Fall in Love With Erie

Life here happens on the shores of Lake Erie. Just minutes from the hospital, Presque Isle State Park is 3,200 acres, 13 sandy beaches, and free admission - Pennsylvania's only seashore. Add local sports, festivals, and an affordable, welcoming community, and you've got a place where you can actually live while you train.

Come Meet Us

We'd love to get to know you. Reach out, follow along, and see if our family might be yours.

Sincerely,                                                                                                                                  Melody Milliron, DO, FACOEP, FAAEM, FACEP                                                        Program Director, Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine
