Most people who are diagnosed with diabetes will need to take medication to control their blood sugar.
If you have type 2 diabetes, you may need to take more than one medicine to control your blood sugar. Depending on the type you use, they can be taken by mouth or as an injection. Consider also that some diabetes medicines may not be safe if you are pregnant, so it’s important that you talk to your doctor if you think you are pregnant, or are thinking of becoming pregnant in the future.
Most people with diabetes will also need to take medications for blood pressure and cholesterol to reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Smoking increases the possibility of developing diabetes complications. If you do smoke, your AHN team can help support you in quitting.
