Osteoporosis means porous bone. When bones are porous, they lose density and become weak and brittle. People with osteoporosis are more likely to experience fragility fractures. These fractures are broken bones that result from a fall that occurs at or below standing height. Your risk of fragility fractures due to osteoporosis increases with age. Own the Bone is a program for people who are admitted to Jefferson for treatment of fragility fractures. One of the program’s primary goals is to prevent future fractures. We evaluate and screen for low bone density or osteoporosis and offer appropriate treatments. You will be referred to the Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic to continue your treatment after you leave the hospital.
