Dr. Graper, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Wexford Hospital, brings a wealth of experience to her role. Her nursing career has spanned a variety of direct patient care roles in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, including medical and surgical intensive care, trauma, neonatal intensive care, post-operative care, and outpatient medical and oncology short stay. Her leadership journey began as a manager in a level III and level II neonatal ICU, and pediatric medical, surgical, and progressive care. Her dedication to patient safety is evident in her role as the director of patient safety at West Penn Allegheny Health System while the patient safety officer of West Penn Hospital. Her tenure advanced to the director of nursing at West Penn Hospital, where she led the team to three Magnet designations and the kickoff of the fourth Magnet redesignation, further underscores her commitment to nursing excellence. The past experiences culminated in Dr. Graper's current role, where she embarked on building a new acute care hospital in the northern region of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Graper's academic journey is marked by a strong focus on patient safety and teamwork. She received her diploma in nursing from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from La Roche College. Her Master of Nursing from Waynesburg University and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Capella University were both earned with a scholarly focus on leadership, TeamSTEPPS and lean operational excellence implementation. Her practice in these areas aims to establish a culture of safety, improve the perception and practice of teamwork and lean principles, and promote patient safety event reporting. Dr. Graper’s has been published articles in the professional journal, Critical Care Quarterly, and she has presented clinical findings at various conferences locally and nationally.
Dr. Graper is certified as a Nurse Executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is active in multiple professional nursing organizations. She is a current member and past board member of the Southwest Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders. Dr. Graper is a current member of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders, the American Organization of Nurse Leaders, and the American Nurses Association. She volunteers with multiple organizations to promote food security and promotion of environmental initiatives, including Global Links, “a non-profit dedicated to serving needy to improving health in communities of need.”
Dr. Graper is an accomplished nurse leader and a valued member of the Wexford Hospital Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Nursing Leadership Team at Allegheny Health Network.
