Urology Residency Application Guidelines

In-person interviews, via Thalamus, are scheduled in December. Virtual interviews are offered to our sub-interns.

All applications must be completed and submitted using the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®).

Thank you for your interest in the Urology Residency Program at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA. We are proud to offer exceptional urologic training in a state-of-the-art facility with outstanding faculty committed to innovation, education, and excellence in patient care. The process for applying for residency is outlined below.

  • We participate in the Urology Match, governed by the Society of Academic Urologists (SAU) and administered by the AUA. The Urology Match occurs in early February. We offer two categorical positions that start in the PG1 year.  
  • All applications are reviewed, and those selected for interviews will be notified by via Thalamus.
  • Eligibility
  • If you are an applicant, you must have:                   
    • completed medical school within the past 5 years
    • passed part one of the USMLE on the first attempt
    • passed clinical skills exam on first attempt
    • passed part two of the USMLE on the first attempt, if you took it
  • For the 2026-2027 residency recruitment season, we will host in-person interviews on Wednesday, December 2 and Saturday, December 5, 2026. The interview day will start at approximately 8am and conclude at approximately 4pm.  
  • The evening before interviews the residents host an informal "Welcome Reception" at a local establishment. Here you will be able to hang out with the residents and ask questions about the program. This is not a mandatory session, but it is an opportunity for you to learn more about our program.
  • On October 23, 2026, applicants will be invited to interview. 
  • On October 26, applicants can respond, accepting the offer, declining the offer, or be waitlisted on a different day.
  • To be considered for the program, please make sure the following materials are provided electronically through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) by September 30, 2026:
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Letter of support from your medical school Dean (MSPE)
    • Official medical school transcript
    • USMLE or COMLEX score reports
    • Personal statement describing aspects of your background in a way that might give your application special merit.
  • Visiting sub-intern students must apply via ERAS but will NOT be required to participate in a formal in-person urology residency interview. Virtual interviews for Sub-I applicants only will be held at a separate time.

FAQs

  • What is the timeline for your interview process?
    We conduct interviews in November and December. We begin to review applications as soon as ERAS opens, and we will send invitations in October. It is very unlikely that you will receive an interview offer after November 1 if you have not already been offered a place on the wait list. 
  • Which visa types does your program accept?
    We accommodate J1 visas.
  • Do you accept applications form foreign and/or international graduates?
    We are proud of our diverse program and give full consideration to all applicants in our process. Foreign/international candidates who have successfully matched to our program have generally:
    • Graduated from medical school within the past three years.
    • Passed USMLE/COMLEX 1 on the first attempt.
    • Passed USMLE/COMLEX 2 on the first attempt.
    • Have at least 3-months of clinical activity in the United States (ideally "hands on" clinical rotations).
