What is geriatric medicine?

Geriatricians have a background in either family medicine or internal medicine and are board-certified in geriatric medicine, which means they complete additional training for treating seniors.

When should you see a geriatric doctor?

Generally, you should consider seeing a geriatrician for either primary care or a specialty visit if you’re 65 and older and you:

• Have issues with frailty or physical limitations.
• Have multiple conditions that require complex medication and treatment.
• Can no longer get adequate support from your current caregivers.
