Our 1-year fellowship in Cytopathology offers advanced training in diagnostic cytology with emphasis on the performance of FNAs and the selective application of ancillary techniques. The cytology service evaluates approximately 15,500 cases per year, of which 8,000 are non-gynecologic specimens that include 3,300 fine needle aspiration biopsies.
Fellows receive increasing levels of responsibility commensurate with level of performance. Emphasis also is placed on the integration of surgical pathology with cytopathology and the use of air-dried Diff-Quik and alcohol-fixed Papanicolaou stains, as well as liquid-based monolayer preparations.
Fellows participate in the service, teaching, and research activities of the cytology division. With more than 1,000 FNA biopsies at Allegheny General Hospital annually, fellows assist and perform these biopsies and review all consultation cases. Fellows participate in conferences, teaching, and research projects; as well as national teaching and workshops given by the cytology faculty.
Benefits and stipends will commensurate with the level of training. Visit our Benefits - Consortium page to learn more about the benefits and salaries for residencies and fellowships.
