What is addiction medicine?

Substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder, can take a huge toll on your life and health — or the livelihood of someone you know and love. Through the AHN Center for Inclusion Health, our growing addiction medicine services and multidisciplinary team of recovery specialists are providing life-changing substance use treatment.

Our highly trained care team includes board-certified addiction medicine specialists, nurses, social workers, behavioral health specialists, and certified recovery specialists. Each member of our team understands the unique needs of people affected by substance use disorders.

We help people with opioid use and other substance use disorders get the treatment they need, when and where they need it. You or your loved ones can live a healthier, fuller life beyond substance addiction, and we can help you get there.

Addiction treatment from AHN

Our expanding addiction medicine program gives you or your loved ones the care and support needed to recover from substance use disorders. We offer a range of treatment options, including medication-assisted treatment and outpatient therapy.

What we offer

An outpatient substance use disorder clinic

Our recovery medicine clinic treats patients for a variety of substance use disorders with medications that reduce the symptoms of withdrawal, including buprenorphine and naltrexone. Specialized treatment is provided in an office-based setting.

Low-barrier mobile care

We partner with Prevention Point Pittsburgh to provide mobile-based opioid use disorder treatment at syringe service sites in Allegheny County. We also partner with FAVOR Bolivar, a recovery care organization, to provide low-barrier, mobile-based opioid use disorder services in Westmoreland County, PA.

Specialized support for moms and moms-to-be

AHN's Perinatal Hope program provides personalized treatment and support for pregnant women and new moms who are struggling with a substance use disorder.

Addiction consult service

We offer addiction medicine consults to hospitalized patients with substance use disorders. Our multidisciplinary inpatient consult teams help by:

  • Providing patients with medications, behavioral health treatments, and support to help reduce the harms of drug use.
  • Developing care plans and sharing resources to help patients continue treatment and access services in their community after being discharged from the hospital.
  • Offering coaching and support from certified recovery specialists to help patients work towards their goals and priorities.
  • Collaborating with clinicians and hospitals to help them better serve patients with substance use disorders.

Extensive support

Everyone faces unique challenges during the recovery process. We’ll connect you with the community-based resources you or your loved ones need to be successful. This can include assistance with transportation, food insecurity, employment, or housing.

Coordinated care

Our program has behavioral health specialists at many primary care offices who work to screen patients for potential substance use disorders, which helps to identify people affected by addiction sooner.

We have a highly trained team of experts that include board-certified addiction medicine specialists, nurses, social workers, behavioral health specialists, and certified recovery specialists. They work collaboratively to personalize care and support to every individual’s unique needs.
