Hello! and welcome to the AP/CP residency program here at Allegheny General Hospital, part of the Allegheny Health Network. The network is comprised of several smaller community hospitals throughout western Pennsylvania. Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital serve as the two largest tertiary-level teaching hospitals within the network, having an academic affiliation with the Drexel University College of Medicine. Our program is an integrated 4-year residency with balanced anatomic and clinical pathology rotations. Our focus is on a well-rounded resident training experience in all aspects of pathology. Residents here are exposed to a wide variety of cases across all areas of pathology.
Department volumes continue to rise and average between 35,000 surgical specimens, 18,500 GYN cytology cases, over 8000 non-GYN cytology cases, and approximately 2000 FNAs. Autopsy numbers range between 75-100 per year. These numbers provide a solid combination of routine and challenging cases to learn from.
With more than 17 faculty on site, the department has a diverse mix of subspecialty interests, levels of experience, and teaching styles. This combined with didactic lectures and direct one-on-one teaching, provide a unique learning experience for our residents and fellows.
Our program currently has a complement of 12 total residents. We are planning to accept 3 residents in the upcoming Match. Due to the current pandemic, all interviews will be conducted virtually. Our website contains additional information about our program. Please feel free to email us with any additional questions. Thank you for the interest in our program and we look forward to meeting you!
