West Penn Burn Center offers continuing education programs for pre-hospital staff and first responders. Seminars are scheduled at the Center and throughout western Pennsylvania, most of West Virginia, eastern Ohio and western Maryland.
These programs have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Services Office for continuing education credits.
Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)
The advanced burn life support course is an eight-hour course for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, and paramedics.
The course provides guidelines in the assessment and management of the burn patient during the first 24 hours post injury.
The PATCH Program: Initial Management of Burn Injuries
This hands-on course is designed specifically for pre-hospital personnel and focuses on the management of burns in a variety of case scenarios. This course includes two hours of lectures followed by simulation training and is approved for four continuing education hours through the Pennsylvania Department of Health. A patch and certificate will be issued upon completion. Lunch is provided. Space is limited.
