AHN Neuroscience Institute Second Opinions

When it's your brain or spine, you need answers you can trust. A clear path begins here.

A second chance to explore every option

Hearing you have a neurological condition can feel overwhelming. When it affects your brain or spine, there's so much to take in — and the next step isn't always clear. A second opinion from AHN can give you the answers you need. It's a chance to confirm your diagnosis or treatment plan, consider other options, and make decisions with confidence. So you can move ahead, knowing you're on the right path for your health and your life.

A second look from leading specialists

The AHN Neuroscience Institute is a regional, national, and international referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of all neurological conditions — from multiple sclerosis and stroke, to epilepsy and ALS, to brain tumors and Parkinson's.

We work as a team and take the time to listen, explain, and guide you or your loved one throughout your journey. That means every opinion, every test result, and every treatment option is considered from multiple perspectives, so you'll have the most effective plan and best possible outcome.

Here's how to get a second opinion

To get started, fill out our online request form. Someone from our care team will give you a call within two business days. It's a free, no-pressure consultation — just a chance to talk through things before scheduling a second opinion appointment.

If you decide to move forward, you'll be scheduled with an AHN neurologist, neurosurgeon, or pain management specialist who specializes in your condition. They'll review your records and recommend a treatment that fits you — your condition, your life, and your goals. This recommendation is nonbinding. That means you're not required to move forward with the treatment plan.

We offer both in-person and virtual second opinion visits, depending on your specific situation. The cost follows your health insurance coverage, just like any other specialist appointment.

Common questions, honest answers.

We get these questions a lot. So, we've answered them here to help you feel sure about getting a second opinion.

Can I really get a second opinion?

Yes, you absolutely can. It's your health and your call. A second opinion can give you clarity, peace of mind, and confidence that you're choosing the best path — or a new path — forward.

Who should get a second opinion?

A second opinion is for anyone with a neurological diagnosis. Maybe you're unsure what your diagnosis means, or you've been told surgery is your best option. Perhaps you've been living with a neurological condition for years and want to see if new treatments or medications are available. Or maybe you want the reassurance of a trusted team. No matter what your reason, getting a second opinion from AHN can help you move forward with confidence.

Will my doctor be upset if I get a second opinion?

Not at all. Second opinions are common — and most doctors even encourage them. It's about making sure you have all the information you need to make the best decision for yourself or your loved one.

How much does it cost to get a second opinion?

Your first phone consultation is free. After that, the cost follows your health insurance coverage, just like any other specialist appointment.

Will my insurance cover my second opinion?

Many plans do, especially for a major brain or spine diagnosis. If you're unsure, we can help you navigate your options. Please feel free to talk to us and ask us questions.
