Kids' ortho services at AHN

From everyday injuries to complex conditions, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute offers a full range of services designed specifically for infants, children, and teens. Our integrated approach brings together specialty care, advanced technology, and supportive services to help kids move comfortably, build strength, and safely return to the activities they love.

Specialty centers of care

All located within our convenient Wexford facility, our specialty centers are programs dedicated to specific conditions or treatments, with expert multidisciplinary teams focused on your child's care and recovery.

  • Pediatric Therapy Services: In a welcoming, kid-friendly environment, our therapists help children and adolescents build strength, mobility, and confidence. Services include physical and occupational therapy, vision and concussion rehabilitation, return-to-play guidance, and specialized therapy for children with developmental and neurologic conditions.
  • Kids' Sports and Injury Center: For sprains, fractures, sudden pain, or sports injuries, families can access prompt evaluation and treatment. Our team focuses on an accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and a safe return to sports and everyday activity.
  • Spine and Musculoskeletal Center: We provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide range of orthopaedic and neuromuscular conditions — from common concerns to complex diagnoses. Screening clinics and ongoing care help support healthy growth and alignment over time.
  • Concussion and Sports Medicine Center: Board-certified sports medicine specialists deliver expert concussion care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and guidance for a safe return to school, sports, and daily routines.

Advanced diagnostics and technology

We use advanced imaging and diagnostic tools designed specifically for children, giving our specialists the detailed information they need while prioritizing comfort and safety. We offer:

  • Low-dose EOS imaging for precise assessment of spine and limb alignment with less radiation exposure.
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound for real-time imaging, guided procedures, and infant hip evaluations.

Family-centered care and convenience

We believe great pediatric care supports the whole family. That's why we partner closely with parents and caregivers, providing guidance, education, and convenient access to care. This includes:

  • Education and guidance to help families feel confident in care decisions.
  • Preparation and support for procedures and recovery.
  • Same-day or next-available appointments for many injuries.
  • For elective orthopaedic care, same-week appointments in the Spine and Musculoskeletal Center.

Behavioral and emotional support

Healing isn't only physical. When your child is injured or suffering from an orthopaedic condition, it's normal for them to feel anxious and upset, or to worry about treatments like surgery. Your child may be unable — or not allowed — to do certain activities they used to enjoy. Siblings may struggle with the extra attention your injured child requires, or the extra responsibilities they may need to take on.

Every family deals with this stress differently. At the Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute, we're here to support your family as your child heals from their injury.

Strategies for your home

Creating a comfortable healing environment at home will have a big impact on your child's ability to recover. Remember to focus on:

  • Physical health needs: Everyone should eat balanced meals, get a good night's sleep, and be active for at least 30 minutes a day. This may include specific therapy exercises for your child.
  • Having fun: Find activities to do together as a family, and make sure everyone spends time with friends they enjoy. Relax and be supportive of each other, especially if someone is feeling down.
  • Following your care instructions: Make sure your child is keeping up with the exercises, rest, bracing, therapy, and medications recommended by your care team.

Throughout treatment, remind your child often that it's normal to feel stressed, sad, mad, or scared, and that it's okay to talk about these feelings with the people they love. If you or your family need more support, someone on your care team can refer you to a pediatric behavioral health provider in our network.
